Wakeboard Film: Box of Fun

Wakeboard films come and go, new get produced, and old films collect dust because you just never know when you are going to watch them again.  Having a collection of different films to some is a life symbol, to me it is a way of life.  It is also a way to study to become a better rider.  If you can’t go out and ride with the best, why not watch them and learn every move they do.  My latest wakeboard study session came in the form of Box of Fun.

BOX of FUN

WakeboardingBox of Fun was produced by Collin Harrington.  Collin had the chance to team up with a group of pro riders who traveled the world to make this film.  From Florida to Dubai, scuba diving to commercials to green screens, surfing to bare footing, Rock ‘n’ Roll to bluegrass,  Box of Fun has it all.  What the film shows most is right there in the title.  FUN.  As with most pro wakeboarding the riding is nothing short of pro level.  Every single person in this film throws down.

Lets talk about fun though.  Seals, magic carpet rides, new hair dues, flying cars, surfing, Mastercrafts, Nautiques, Wakesetters, friends, trips, and wakeboarding to make a film.  What?  I don’t know if a group of riders could have anymore fun than they show throughout this video.  You will have to watch it to know what I am talking about, but I promise as soon as you pop it in the player, you will have a smile on your face.  If I could do half of what they did, my life would be complete.  To be truthful I am going go for it all like every single person in Box of Fun has done.  Just watch the video.  Fun drains from these peoples pores, and you can tell they have worked their butts off to get where they are.

Keep your eye on Collin as I have already seen him post up some killer short videos that would likely make the cut to another wakeboard film.  The guy kills it on a board, behind the computer, and I can’t wait to see what he comes up with next.  Until then get yourself a copy of Box of Fun, and picture yourself Boarding the Midwest All Day, Everyday.

the Midwest Ultimate Training Facility adds Slackline

The Midwest Ultimate Training Facility is a snowboard/wakeboard training facility that only exists in my mind.  When looking into my mind, you will see visions of Snow Flex ramps, foam pits, trampolines, skate park features, wave pools, rail parks, balance boards, friends, and families having the time of their lives training in unconditional ways.  Well to add to the mix, my mind now has a new vision that fits in perfectly.  It’s called Slackline folks.

Slacklining

In the video above you can watch some of the best slacklining around.  There are a few different types of slacklining, and if you Google it you will see people walking over crazy gaps, jumping from one line to the other, and people doing freestyle tricks on the line.

From what I have read, this is a fairly new sport in the action sports community, and one that seems to be growing fast.  SlackLiningBesides all of the different tricks you can learn, all I can think about is the balance training that this sports brings.  As we all know wakeboarding and snowboarding take an enormous amount of balance, and learning how to slackline will help with this.  I tell you what.  If you can do a flip on a slackline, you can do a flip on a board.  No question about it.  Heck, if you can walk a slackline you can ride a board.  This brings me to two conclusions.  The Midwest Ultimate Training Facility has to have at least one slackline, and this is just another method to help us all Board the Midwest All Day, Everyday.

Giveaway: Smart Phone meets Smart Glove

Say goodbye to cold fingers.  SmarTouch gloves have arrived.  They are revolutionary, they can be used with every smart phone on the market, and you can text your face off without removing your gloves.  ISOTONER recently hooked me up with a pair of these gloves to test out, and take to the streets.  So far I agree with the technology and the quality of the glove.  The idea is that touch screens don’t work with gloves, UNTIL NOW!  ISOTONER has implemented killer tips to the fingers of their gloves that act like skin and allow you to answer, text, and manipulate your smart phone without taking your gloves off.

The Best 2010 Wakeboard Boat

It is sad to say, but it looks like my wakeboard season is finally over.  This reality made me think back on the season and I couldn’t help but think about my most memorable sets, the great people I met, and the killer boats I had the chance to ride behind.  With a season that passed in the blink of an eye, there is one boat that I can’t get off my mind.  I believe Super Air Nautique 230 is the best boat that 2010 has to offer.

230 Super Air Nautique Wakeboard Boat

Super Air Nautique Wakeboard Boat

Early this summer I hopped into my car and took a drive to Indiana for the Ice Breaker Wakefest.  This is where I had the chance to ride behind this monster of a boat.  If you ever wonder how pros go huge and pull off 1080′s, it all makes sense once you ride behind a 230 Super Air Nautique.  Adam Wensink was at the event and just happended to be pulling everyone and anyone behind the boat you see above.  As I geared up for a set behind the Nautique, my nerves were kicking, my blood was pumping, and I didn’t know what to expect.

What I felt behind this boat was nothing like I expected.  The wake was huge, the ride was smooth, and now I can’t get this boat out of my dreams.  I thought I was going to struggle, but the exact opposite happened.  Hang time was unreal, pop was perfect every time, and it is nearly impossible to tell you how sweet the wake was.  All I can say is that if you ever scrounge up enough cash to buy a boat like this, or if you ever have the chance to get out behind a Super Air Nautique, you need to do it.  I don’t care if you have to drive 5 hours, I promise it will be worth it.  As far as the 2010 season goes, all I can say is that the 230 Super Air Nautique is the best wakeboard boat I rode behind.

Sesitec, Wakeboards, and now Quater Pipes

When the Sesitec System 2.0 came out it took wakeboarding to a whole new level.  Then people got their hands on this system, and took wakeboarding somewhere it has never been.  The folks over at the Projects have now added a whole new dimension to wakeboarding by adding a quarter pipe to their already unreal rail park.  Get Some!! (which means I’m pumped, check it out)

Quarter Pipes and Wakeboarding

An obstacle that the wakeboard industry has never been able to use is a quarter pipe.  Well forget that because dreams have been made and standards are rising to the top.  If your Sesitec Park doesn’t include a quarter pipe, you are missing out unless you have came up with something even better.  If you have please email me so I can write about you for days.  This is how excited I am about quarter pipes entering the wakeboard scene.  For now, sit back, relax, and watch the video below of Shane Bonifay and a couple others hitting the quarter pipe.
